How do you treat it?
As quickly as possible. The good news is that most people with bacterial meningitis
survive it OK, as long as they are treated with antibiotics early enough. If someone
is suspected of having bacterial meningitis, then the doctor who diagnoses it
should give antibiotics straight away by injection. At the hospital normally these
antibiotics will be continued for several days. If its not caught in time, bacterial
meningitis can lead to death, brain damage or deafness. Antibiotics do not treat
viral meningitis.
Can I stop myself getting it?
